Application for International protection
COVID-19: impact on administrative procedures:

With Court Order 120/105/C of the French-speaking Court of First Instance of Brussels, the Belgian State was ordered to take all measures deemed necessary to bring an end to the impossibility for applicants for international protection to request material support in accordance with Article 2, 6° of the Reception Act at the moment of submitting an online request for an appointment and to obtain a decision on the provision of material support.

In response to the aforementioned Court Order Fedasil, the Immigration Office and the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration held consultations and decided to bring an end to the system of online requests for appointments.

As from 30 October 2020, 8.30 AM, individuals who wish to make an application for international protection will have to present themselves at the Registration Centre at Rue de Passchendaele 2 in 1000 Brussels.

Please note: the applicable sanitary measures must be respected:

  • The use of a face mask is mandatory.
  • Social distancing rules must be respected in front of the building (1m50 between people who do not belong to the same social bubble).
  • The instructions of Fedasil and the Immigration Office staff and of the police must be strictly followed.

It is of utmost importance that the applicable measures to fight the Coronavirus are respected. Compliance with the measures will be strictly monitored.

Procedure:

  • Individuals who present themselves at the Registration Centre will be invited to enter the building in groups, according to a fixed schedule, taking into account the capacity of the Registration Centre and with due regard for the sanitary measures, in order to guarantee the respect of the sanitary measures inside of the Registration Centre.
  • A first group will immediately be invited to enter the Registration Centre.
  • Individuals who are not immediately invited to enter the Registration Centre, will receive a document stating the time at which they can return to the Registration Centre that same day, taking into account the capacity of the Registration Centre and with due regard for the sanitary measures. Individuals are requested to return at the exact time mentioned on their paper and to not wait in front of the building.
  • Individuals are kindly requested not to present themselves at the Registration Centre for questions concerning the procedure to obtain international protection or any other procedure.
